Sheffield & The Cultural Industries Quarter\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheffield<\/b> is my home city and I am delighted to have my studio located in Persistence Works<\/b>, the award winning home of Yorkshire Artspace<\/b> in the centre of the city\u2019s cultural industries quarter. Our near neighbours include the independent Showroom<\/b> cinema, the Workstation<\/b> and Electric Village<\/b>, both home to many small independent businesses, Site Gallery<\/b>,\u00a0Butcher Works<\/b>, S1<\/b> and Bloc<\/b> studios, Red Tape Studios<\/b>, The Leadmill<\/b>, a venue for live music and several Sheffield Hallam University<\/b> buildings & their Student\u2019s Union<\/b>. This vibrant area is served by a number of excellent restaurants, cafes & bars and some proper traditional pubs. The Midland Railway Station, Transport Interchange and the ring road which connects the city centre to the A57 & M1 motorway are close by. All this is overlooked by Urban Splash\u2019s wonderful and ongoing redevelopment of Park Hill. The whole area is a real hive of activity.<\/p>\n

From Then to Now<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheffield has a proud industrial history of steel and cutlery making and is also famous for the invention of Sheffield plate, a silver & copper sandwich used in the silversmithing industry. Many examples of this impressive work can be seen in our numerous museums and galleries. There is a large exhibition of both historic and contemporary metalwork in the Millennium Gallery.<\/b> In 2016\u00a0Sheffield celebrated the Year of Making<\/strong> showcasing the talents of current designers, makers and creative people at various venues throughout the city. The City of Makers<\/strong> website continues to list upcoming events and exhibitions and Sheffield Creative Guild<\/strong> is another focal point for all things creative. Other events to look out for include Docfest, Sheffield Design Week, Off the Shelf, Festival of the Mind and Tramlines music festival.<\/p>\n
